Readerware

A couple of years ago, I happened to read about a software program called Readerware that was created to enable users to catalog their home collections of books, CDs, videos, and DVDs. Being the library geek that I am, and with my background in cataloging, my interest was immediately piqued. I downloaded a […] ... Continue reading »

  • I found this programme whilst hunting for a GOOD but cheap programme to finally catalogue my 400-ish book library. I downloaded another program which sounds rather like an astrology sign (thought it best not to actually mention it) which was crap.

Therefore I downloaded the Readerware software from the net and decided within a couple od day or so to buy it. Software and scanner inc postage £43.and pennies. I couldn't get the disc to load, no matter what I done. Si I got onto technical advice and got an answer the following day. I done as was suggested and downloaded the software again form the internet. Then came using the scanner! I read, re-read and read again the instructions about how to use the CueCat scanner. Suddenly wow! It worked. The knack of this wonderful tool is not to scan too slowly. Just hold it flat against the book and 99 times out of a 100 it will scan.

All in all a FANTASTIC programme, very cost effective because I won't be buying books again and again thinking "Hmm, Have I got that book?" The only fault is this. Although it scans almost every book 1st time, it isn't always found in the UK library database which is strange. But then it takes just a few minutes to add the data by hand.

I would be only to happy to help anyone if they have a problem. Just email me, that's fine.
  • Great review. Thanks. My daughter just bought me the bundle with scanner and I'm trying to go through the learning curve now. I do not know if it is the scanner or not, but I've tried scanning the barcode on over a dozen books and none were found. I am a small dealer specializing in signed and multi signed books - mostly militaria related. I've got a bookstore on abe.com and was hoping to use this software to create and publish the catalog in an Amazon bookstore I intend to open soon. Thanks again.
